“I’ll go up to the ring and give it my all.  The winner is the only one who celebrates at the end of the fight.- Yonnhy Perez

Today at the Santa Fe Springs Activities Center IBF Bantamweight Champion Yonnhy Perez held an open workout and Q&A session to promote his upcoming fight with hot Golden Boy prospect Abner Mares. The two are set to do battle on the May 22nd undercard of the Vazquez vs Marquez 4, billed as "Once And Four All."

The two met while on competing sides of the Olympic Games and remain good friends. Mares has beat Perez twice in the Amateurs but Perez says those fights are in the past.

"We'll still be friends after the fight Maybe even better than before but we'll have to break up that friendship on May 22 for probably about an hour"

"He beat me twice in the amateurs and now I rely not only on the experience I have but on how positive I am about a victory"

Though their professional records may be near carbon copies of each other it is Perez's roster that gives him the edge in experience.

"It's a huge advantage for me, the fact that I've faced two world champions in my last two fights"

The Colombian Perez agrees this will be a tough fight due to Abner's youth and skill set but says the pro Mexican crowd being on Abner's side due to his Heritage, won't be a problem.

"Abner is a very talented fighter,he's got a lot of skills and he can do a lot of different things in the ring. Not only that but he's a hungry kid that wants to show everybody what he's capable of but what you have to remember is I am the champ"

"Most of my opponents have been Mexicans, I know Abner will have a big crowd over there but my trainer will walk me to the center of the ring and leave me with Abner, so its just the two of us, It doesn't matter how many people are there, Its just him against me"

On May 22nd at the Staples Center in Los Angeles Ca. Two well known warriors, Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez will face off in the center of the ring for the fourth and final time for what should be an all out bloody war, just like their previous three meetings. But before that, a young prospect will look to over throw a proven world champion. Don't miss Yonnhy Perez vs Abner Mares Live on Showtime!!
